Iron Horse Properties Sotheby’s International Realty helps raise funds for the Glacier Institute
|
Bigfork, Montana (August 12, 2008): Iron Horse Properties Sotheby’s International Realty Broker, Jay Wolfe, hosts “Millennium Club” party to raise much needed funds for the Glacier Institute. The Institute was founded in 1983 to help promote science education to our areas youth through a hands-on curriculum. There are two educational facilities; locations in Glacier National Park and the Flathead National Forest. Annually, 1,200 youth participate in the programs meeting Montana State curriculum for science and math. All of their programs are non-advocacy, science based outdoor education taking place in the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem. As a board member of the Glacier Institute, and a Flathead Valley resident, Jay Wolfe is passionate about our national parks and national forest. “Without programs through the Glacier Institute, many of our youth would not have the opportunity to see our areas greatest treasure, Glacier National Park.” The Glacier Institute is an independent organization and received NO financial support from Government Agencies or other Park non-profit partners. “Without grants, gifts & volunteer support, the youth programs would not be possible,” says Wolfe. Traditionally, 50% of our local elementary students are introduced to Glacier National Park for the first time by the Discovery School Program. The youth educational programs cause approximately a $100,000 deficit to the annual budget.
The Glacier Institute Millennium Club hosts monthly parties to raise awareness of their program and raise much needed funds. As a Millennium Club member, the benefits include participation in a President’s hike, unlimited free participation in single day classes at the Institute and much more. The Glacier Institute is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. “The Institute is not just for youths. I plan on participating in a 3 day hike to Sperry Chalet in September sponsored by the Institute. I’m proud to say that this Millennium Club party raised $5,000.” For questions regarding the “Millennium Club” or Glacier Institute, call (406) 755-1211 or www.glacierinstitute.org.

| Sotheby’s Auction House |
On March 11, 1744, Samuel Baker, founder of Sotheby’s, held the first-ever sale under his own name. The library of a certain Rt. Hon. Sir John Stanley, Bart. described as "containing several Hundred scarce and valuable books in all branches of Polite Literature" sold for a few hundred pounds. Well over two centuries later, on December 6, 1983, Sotheby’s sold a single book, The Gospels of Henry the Lion, for more than 8 million pounds.
Since those early days, it is not just prices that have grown considerably. So too have the scope and scale of Sotheby’s itself. Samuel Baker would hardly recognize his old firm, were he to take a stroll down London's present day New Bond Street - or, for that matter, down Manhattan's York Avenue. It has only been in the last century, after all, that the original London company has expanded from book auctions to cover all areas of the fine and decorative arts. This great expansion means that Sotheby’s is not just one of the oldest fine art auctioneers in the world, but also now the largest. There are more than 100 Sotheby’s offices around the world; and, in 1998, auction sales produced a turnover of just under $2 billion
